Windchill integration

CADTALK ERP is an off-the-shelf, bi-directional integration between PTC Windchill and your ERP. It reads the parts and CAD document structures engineering manages in Windchill and transforms the engineering BOM into manufacturing-ready items, BOMs, and routings.

CADTALK works through Windchill's own REST services (Windchill REST Services, built on OData), so nothing is custom-built on the Windchill platform. Engineers sign in with their Windchill credentials or through Microsoft Entra ID single sign-on, and every change CADTALK makes in Windchill is recorded against the account that made it.

Key Windchill integration features

  • Reads Windchill parts (WTParts) and CAD document structures through Windchill REST Services. No exports required, no custom development.
  • Writes back to Windchill too, creating and updating parts and revisions, so both systems hold the same product record.
  • Run on demand from the desktop, or on a schedule from a service host with no one at the keyboard.
  • Sign in with Windchill credentials or Microsoft Entra ID single sign-on.
  • Works alongside PTC Creo, with Windchill as the source of record for the product structure.

Why getting Windchill and your ERP talking pays off

The Windchill vault holds the CAD data engineering checks in. The ERP holds the product record production runs on. Between the two, someone opens the assembly, reads off part numbers, descriptions, and quantities, and re-keys them.

No CAD seat tied up for transfers

BOMs come straight from the Windchill server, so nobody needs Creo open to send a BOM to the ERP.

Change that reaches the floor

When a revised assembly is checked into Windchill, CADTALK identifies the delta and merges it into the ERP.

How CADTALK works with Windchill

Step 1: Read

CADTALK reads parts and CAD document structures through Windchill REST Services. Part numbers, descriptions, quantities, units of measure, revision levels, and custom attributes come across as engineering defined them.

Steps 2-4:

Frequently Asked Questions

Which versions of Windchill does CADTALK support?

Windchill 11 through 13. Your solutions engineer confirms your exact release in discovery.

How does CADTALK read Windchill?

Through Windchill REST Services, PTC's own OData interface. No custom development on the Windchill platform.

Does CADTALK work with Windchill single sign-on?

Yes. Along with Windchill usernames and passwords, CADTALK supports Microsoft Entra ID single sign-on through OpenID Connect. People can sign in with their corporate Microsoft account, and scheduled transfers can run under a dedicated service identity.

Does CADTALK change data in Windchill?

Only when you set it up to. CADTALK can create and update parts and revisions in Windchill, and every change is recorded against the Windchill account that made it.

We use Windchill only as a vault for Creo files. Is this the right page?

Probably not. See the Windchill PDM page (link once live).
